Evergreen Track and Field Rules and Discipline
(and Other Important Information)
I. Excused practices: Athletes must leave a voice mail message with reason before practice starts.
Girls need to leave any messages on Coach Mintle's email:

II. Missing practice.
Attendance:
-Athletes get 3 excused absences
-(Studying for tests, doctors’ appointments, vacations…will be considered an absence)
-3 Unexcused absences =cut from team
-All athletes must communicate with designated coach before practice starts or it will be considered an unexcused absence.
-Consequences for absences:
III. Substance Abuse.
-EHS, Jeffco and CHSAA polices will be enforced for use of illegal drugs.
-EHS, Jeffco and CHSAA polices will be enforced for use of alcohol, tobacco or other drugs.
IV. Practice.
-You will be unable to practice until you have submitted your sports dues, emergency form, physical, anti-hazing forms. These must be turned into the athletic secretary in the main office before the first day of practice. Link: EHS Sports Paperwork
-Practice starts at 3:00 pm every day and goes until 5:00. Do not be late!
-Attendance will be taken at every practice.
-All team members stretch together infield. Seniors will lead.
-Complaints are contagious. If you have a problem, discuss it personally with a Senior or a Coach.
-Days not competing, athletes will still have practice.
-Proper attire is required for appropriate weather.
V. Meets
-Regardless of your situation, you are expected to be at every meet of your level.
-If you cannot practice consistently, you will not participate in meets.
-All team members are expected to stay for the entire meet. Be prepared for late meets and bad weather.
-Support your teammates and be prepared to help in any way during the meets.
-When we are competing, you represent Evergreen High School. You will be respectful to officials, parents, and opponents. Good sportsmanship is expected at all times.
-Field events: You may not practice or warm-up without a coach or official present.
-Uniforms must be worn as intended by your coaches.
-No electronic devices are allowed in competitive areas. Disqualification will result.
-All athletes must wear the appropriate undergarments at meets. Failure will result in disqualification.
-Girls are not allowed to show mid-drifts or rolling of shorts.
-Any athlete disrobing (uniform) on the athletic field can result in being disqualified.
VI. Academics. (EHS rules are stricter than CHSAA rules)
-You will be ineligible if you are failing a class.
-Grades are checked on Tues and Fri, coaches and parents are informed of D/Fs, Fridays coaches get the F lists, if an F on Friday, runner will be ineligible the following M - Sat
-If a coach sees that an F shows no improvement after 3 weeks, decisions will be made.
VII. Personal Conduct
-Appropriate language during meets or practices is required.
-Supporting and encouraging all your teammates and the events they compete in is expected.
-All athletes are responsible for all equipment issued to them.
VIII. Communication.
-For inclement weather situations prior to practice and/or meets, athletes will be contacted by coaches. Athletes will be informed if a meet is cancelled on a Saturday by phone tree.
Other Important Information
Meet information of who will be competing will be posted on the track door outside the locker rooms every week.
Bus transportation will be sometime provided to meets. Athletes will be notified of what meets buses will be running. Student athletes that are 17 will be permitted to transport themselves and siblings ONLY (unless parent permission is written or a phone call is made to the coach) to the meets.
If athletes ride the bus they cannot leave with another student of parent without parent permission to the designated coach. Coach must get a personal release.
All athletes will be issued a school track bag, uniform, hoodie, sweatpants, coverup and cover bottoms. Athletes are responsible for returning all equipment on the turn-in date. Any late equipment will receive a $25.00 late fee. Missing or damaged equipment will be fined.
Lettering Guidelines
In order to earn a varsity letter in Track and Field, specific requirements must be met. The requirements are as follows:
*An athlete shall earn at least 11 points during the season by placing in varsity meets or placing in the top six at state.
*Points are typically broken down as follows:
- At jeffco meets, athletes and/or relay teams will earn 5 points for 1st, 3 points for 2nd, 2 points for 3rd and 1 point for 4th.
- At invitational's, athletes and/or relay teams will earn 10 points for 1st, 8 points for 2nd, 6 points for 3rd, 5 points for 4th, 4 points for 5th, 3 points for 6th, 2 points for 7th and 1 point for 8th.
*Head coaches reserve the right to give letters to athletes who have demonstrated outstanding effort, hard work ethics, and a good attitude.
*Head coaches reserve the right to not award letters to athletes who before or after lettering 11 points, this includes not showing appropriate effort, hard work ethics, or attitude for the season. This includes athletes that quit during the season.
